Mark Zuckerberg Ordered Meta To Remove Tampons From Men’s Restrooms After Meeting With Donald Trump

Sounds like some big changes are coming to Meta.

Earlier this week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced sweeping changes that were being made to the company’s platforms, which include Facebook and Instagram.

In a video posted to social media, the Facebook founder announced that the company would be eliminating fact checkers, which he said had been “too politically biased.” Instead, Meta plans to implement a “community note” system similar to that of Elon Musk’s X.

Meta also implemented major changes to their content policies, including eliminating restrictions on speech on politically-charged topics like immigration and gender. And he announced that the would change the way AI filters scan for violations, instead using those filters to focus on illegal content while relying on reports from users before reviewing posts.

Zuckerberg said the changes come as a result of the platforms going too far in their efforts to be more inclusive:

“What started as a movement to be more inclusive has increasingly been used to shut down opinions and shut out people with different ideas, and it’s gone too far. So I want to make sure that people can share their beliefs and experiences on our platforms.”

And according to a new report from the New York Times, these are all changes that Zuckerberg has been wanting to make for a while – and that he made personally with only a small group of trusted advisors so that they didn’t leak before being announced.

The announcement earlier this week comes just a few weeks after Zuckerberg met with President-Elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort, a meeting which the Meta CEO said he was grateful for considering the “important time for American innovation.”

But according to the New York Times, the changes implemented by Zuckerberg won’t only affect users: Apparently he’s making some changes around their offices too.

In his video earlier this week, Zuckerberg announced that Meta would be moving their content moderation team from California to Texas in an effort to appear less biased towards conservatives – though I’m sure the lower taxes in Texas didn’t hurt either.

And around the office, apparently changes are also coming to…the men’s bathroom.

The New York Times reports that after making his announcement this week, Meta instructed facilities managers to remove the tampons from the men’s restrooms, supplies that the company had previously provided for “nonbinary and transgender employees who use the men’s room.”

Obviously the issue of tampons in men’s restrooms has become a talking point in the political debate around the rights of transgenders, and even earned Democrat vice presidential candidate Tim Walz the nickname “Tampon Tim” after he signed a bill as governor of Minnesota requiring schools to provide menstrual products in all restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 through 12.

And as you can imagine, not all Meta employees are happy with the changes, with some LGBT employees reportedly telling co-workers that they were looking for other employment.

But it sounds like Meta is ready for a reset – and Zuckerberg confirmed during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that the recent election of Donald Trump just confirmed that the new policies are more in line with the culture of the site’s users:

“There’s no good time to do it…

The good thing about doing it after the election is you get to take this kind of cultural pulse, like, ‘Where are people right now and how are people thinking about it?’ We try to have policies that reflect mainstream discourse.”

Better late than never.
