Giving us the gift of music.
We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, surrounded by friends, family, and those you love. While many folks woke up on Christmas morning hoping they were on the nice list, wishing to see some goodies under the tree, Flatland Cavalry gave us a new song, whether naughty or nice.
Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. Before releasing their new single, “Homesteady- Home Demo,” the Texas-founded band shared a video performance of their entire headlining Ryman debut, making Christmas week one to remember for Flatland Cavalry fans. But that stunning video footage wasn’t enough, and they dropped a new single off the heels of their 10th-anniversary album, Flatland Forever.
Frontman Cleto Cordero shared a video on social media announcing the single yesterday morning.
“Merry Christmas, everybody! Y’all have been so kind to us this year; we wanted to gift y’all a recording this morning; it’s called ‘Homesteady.’ It was featured on ‘Yellowstone’ a few weeks ago.
Many of y’all have been asking about it, so we just figured it would be the right thing to do to just give it to you on Christmas Day so you have something to listen to while you’re at home with all of those that you love. That’s what I’m doing right now, and I’ll be here until we play on New Year’s Eve at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth; if you’re around, come and see us.”
Flatland had quite a few songs featured in the final episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, and Flatland fans quickly noticed one unreleased track, quickly falling in love with it. Jeremy Spillman, Josh Desure, and Cleto Cordero wrote the stunning acoustic track.
“Homesteady” was recorded in his living room and features a stellar dobro guitar riff that Kurt Ozan played.
The lyrics highlight a man who wants to live off the grid, similar to the homestead lifestyle the Duttons lived. He chases the feeling of a slow, rural home where things do not change rapidly. While the narrator does not want the world around him to change, he notices how the land changes daily as it develops and hopes that he can continue to live a “Homesteady.”
“Looking out my front porch over the pasture
Nothing looks the same as it did last year
Changing faster than the wind can blow, tryna carry me along
How the hell does one know when they’re ready?
Some men drift like tumbleweeds
Chasing dreams and fantasies
Restless as a northern prairie
Resting under Western stars
Out here where the wild things are
Feel safer than where any road can get me
Lord, let me live a life, homestead…”
The release of this home demo is the perfect way to close out an incredible year of music from Flatland Cavalry. These boys do not miss, and I can’t wait to see what is up their sleeve for 2025.
Here’s to looking forward to another great year of country music. Fire it up.
