Rumor has it this deer’s antlers are still orbiting the Earth as we speak.
There’s nothing worse than having a nice, peaceful night time drive soiled by a deer running out in front of your vehicle. It’s crazy that a deer will run away when they sense a hunter moving a quarter of an inch in a tree stand, yet when they see a vehicle barreling down the highway, they run right out in front of it.
Deer are very interesting, peculiar creatures.
And based on this video below, they are very aerodynamic creatures as well… and not in a good way. This semi-truck was just driving down the road, minding its own business when a big buck accidentally leaped into the line of fire.
To be blunt, deer aren’t the smartest beings in the animal kingdom, and when they become startled, they can mix up which way is safe and which way is danger – leading to them too often meeting their demise on the front of an automobile. Or in this case a 10,000 pound semi-truck.
Remember learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion? Newton’s first law states that “an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion, unless it is acted upon by an external force.” Newton’s lesser-known law – involving deer – goes very similarly:
“A deer running inexplicably towards a semi-truck will very quickly and involuntarily turn into an astronaut as the 18-wheeler continues to stay in motion.”
Never heard of that one? That’s okay.
If you are more of a visual learner, we’ve got quite the video below showing Newton’s Law of Deer Motion (I made that up just to clear) in action. One moment, a sizable buck is galloping across multiple lanes of traffic. The next? The deer’s antlers – and only its antlers – are sent rocketing into the dark night sky, seemingly right towards the moon.
Obviously I’ll warn those that are squeamish that the video below is a tad graphic. If you don’t tend to like or watch these videos, maybe just take my word for it. The semi-truck just keeps plowing ahead afterwards, but the driver likely pulled over later to assess the damage – if any. When a deer jumps in front of you that late, there’s not much you can really do but hope it goes quickly.
Those on social media that came across the video could hardly believe how far the deer’s antlers were launched by the 18-wheeler, and left some rather entertaining comments below the post:
“Elon can parallel park a 40-story building, but he hasn’t launched a deer into space.”
“ON DASHER! ON DANCER! OH MY F**KING GOD!”
“The semi-truck didn’t even slow down after.”
“What highway is this so I can go out there and find that shed?”
“Have had that happen a few times where the antlers come flying up over the hood of my semi. It’s crazy stuff.”
