It’s finally November and that’s means well… it means a few things. Hunting season is upon, weather is getting cooler around the country, it’s acceptable to start thinking about Christmas… I said THINKING about Christmas. Don’t you dare start playing Christmas songs yet… it’s too early.
But it also means that the return of Yellowstone is right around the corner.
With the highly-anticipated Part 2 of Yellowstone Season 5 set to premiere on November 10th, it will be the final season of the hit Paramount Network series. Of course, the final installment won’t feature Kevin Costner, so a number of fans are already upset with how the show is coming to an end, but if there is one thing you can count on… every single season… it’s the soundtrack. well Curated by music supervisor Andrea von Foerster, with help from series mastermind and creator Taylor Sheridan, the Yellowstone soundtrack is, without a doubt, the best that Hollywood has ever assembled. Go ahead and try top show me a better one… you can’t do it.
In Season 4, we saw the likes of Shane Smith & the Saints, Colter Wall, Blackberry Smoke, Hailey Whitters, Ryan Bingham, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Cody Johnson, Jason Isbell, and more. The first half of Season 5 brought us more of Shane Smith, who even appeared in the show, as well as Zach Bryan, Flatland Cavalry, Cody Jinks, as well as Lainey Wilson who also appeared as a character on the show.
So without further ado, let’s count it down.
From the pilot episode, all the way up through the first half of Season 5, the soundtrack of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone has been absolutely incredible. The show itself is great too, but the soundtrack is really what ties it all together for me. Combine that with the gorgeous scenery of Montana and it’s just a mood booster… plot holes be damned. I’m not even kidding, I look forward to seeing which songs are going to be featured in the show every Sunday night.
The music of Whiskey Myers is featured prominently throughout the early part of the series, as well as Ryan Bingham (who stars in the show), but along with Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, Turnpike Troubadours and more, I honestly don’t think I could draw it up any better. And not to mention, it’s had a VERY positive impact on the success of some of the artists that it has featured. Dubbed the “Yellowstone Effect,” by us here at Whiskey Riff, we did a deep dive on the soundtrack, comparing streams before and after an artist’s appearance on the show, and bands like Shane Smith and the Saints, Whiskey Myers, Ryan Bingham, and more have seen significant gains as a result of their music being included in the show. And if we’re to believe a rising tide raises all ships, that’s a GREAT thing for traditional and non-mainstream country music as a whole. God bless Taylor Sheridan and Andrea von Foerster… they’re out here doing the Lord’s work.
So that being said, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from each season.
