My kind of Christmas music.
Today, Megan Moroney released her first holiday EP titled Blue Christmas… duh, which features two original songs “All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy” and “Christmas Morning,” as well as a cover of the Elvis classic “Blue Christmas.”
“All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy” is the easy standout in my humble opinion, and a is cute, cheeky little tune that finds Meg making a pretty simple Christmas list… she just wants a hot cowboy that she can “unwrap like a present”:
“Give me tall hot in a stetson
Somethin’ I can unwrap like a present
Put him in some new Luccheses
Make him call me, “Baby”
I swear I’ve been good all year
Please Santa, please
All I want for Christmas is a cowboy
Who only wants me”
I really don’t think that’s asking too much…
“Christmas Morning” is a much more somber, sad song, right in her wheelhouse, where she’s dealing with heartbreak on Christmas morning rather than being happy with all the usual joy of the season.
Of course “Blue Christmas” is a solid cover of a holiday classic, and goes perfectly with the blue theme she’s had going in all of the promo and album rollout for her sophomore studio album Am I Okay? that came out in July.
As far as Christmas music goes, it’s not always my favorite and can be really overdone by country artists because a lot of them tend to put out festive music this time of year, but I have to say, these two originals are easily some of my favorites and I will certainly be listening to them even outside of the holiday season.
Do yourself a favor and check them out, you’ll be glad you did:
