Honestly, one of my favorite parts of the night.
On Saturday evening, Luke Combs and Eric Church hosted their Concert For Carolina, which raised an impressive (to say the least) over 24.5 MILLION for families in western North Carolina that were devastated by Hurricane Helene.
It was a special night filled with performances by great North Carolinians like James Taylor, as well as The Avett Brothers, which are always incredible live.
Due to a weather delay, some of the sets got moved around and cut a little short, but they came out hot regardless after a great introduction by Mr. Combs, who told the crowd he’s been a fan of them for years, before he was ever really even thinking of moving to Nashville and becoming a big star.
They came out hot with a full-throttle performance of Toby Keith’s “As Good as I Once Was,” which was released in 2005 as the second single from his Honkytonk University album. Keith wrote it with Scotty Emerick, and the song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, staying at the top for six weeks and tying with his 2003 single “Beer for My Horses” for his longest-running #1 single.
Obviously, The Avett Brothers are more of a folk-leaning band in terms of their sound, though I have to say, I was extremely impressed and a little bit surprised with their song choice, but I was loving every minute of it because they’re so incredibly talented and can sing just about anything.
It was cool to see them tip their cap to Toby on such a big stage at such a huge event, and it was a highlight of the star-studded concert and a fun, upbeat moment despite the sad circumstances for holding it in the first place.
