Unfortunately, I can relate so hard to this little guy, who was beside-himself distraught over the state of his fantasy football team.
This year marks the first ever that I’m in more than one fantasy league. We have one rolling here at the Whiskey Riff workplace, and let me tell you: I am down bad.
Five losses in six games. A merciful bye sprinkled in there. Long story short, I went all-in on Anthony Richardson too early. This continues to be my mortal flaw: Getting too excited about a team or player before they’re truly ready to arrive. Then Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion torpedoed Tyreek Hill’s value, Cooper Kupp wrecked his ankle when his target share sans Puka Nacua would’ve been approximately 84%, and I gave up early on Mark Andrews amidst his glacial start to the season, only to see him score three TDs in the last two weeks.
It’s been a disaster, y’all. Meanwhile in my other league, I’m 6-1 with a starting backfield of Derrick Henry and Kyren Williams. It be like that sometimes.
San Francisco 49ers do-it-all wide receiver Deebo Samuel is not on my team, but he is on the team of a boy who’s feeling the fantasy football blues because of injured and/or underperforming players. As you can see, though, Deebo made sure to let the boy know that he’s doing OK despite a trip to the hospital.

Through tears, the boy laments how Deebo is in the hospital and how Chris Godwin is injured, no less on a gruesome ankle dislocation that happened with less than a minute remaining in a two-possession game. He also calls out CJ Stroud for poor play. Savage!
For real though, Deebo was in a bad spot. It’s kind of scary to think such an elite athlete can still come down with something as severe as pneumonia in the prime of his career.
Kyle Shanahan shared that Deebo Samuel Sr. is currently in the hospital dealing with fluid in his lungs and pneumonia.

Didn’t know who Tracy Sandler was before diving into this story, but couldn’t agree with her more here:
Not to get on my soapbox here, but…with Deebo Samuel in the hospital with pneumonia, maybe it’s a good wake up call for the Twitter doctors and conspiracy theorists to take a breath before putting out theories and “information” on social media that have absolutely zero basis or…

Real-time speculation about a player’s injury, while providing some value to a certain sect of the audience who must know as soon as possible what might have happened to a player in the midst of such devastating circumstances, comes across as rather poor taste to me.
Injuries suck and are an inevitable part of football. The 49ers in particular have been confronted by that reality worse than most teams this season. At a certain point this past Sunday, they were without their top three wide receivers and Christian McCaffrey, who’s yet to play since the Super Bowl and won’t until November 10 at earliest. Just glad to hear Deebo is OK so that he can help out the 49ers and the boy’s fantasy squad sooner or later.
