Snoop really getting into country music lately, eh?
I mean everybody else is so why not, but if there’s any artist from another genre I would love to have in country music it’s Snoop Dogg. Not really because of his vocals, or because I think him trying to go “country” would be particularly…well, country, but more so just because he’s hilarious and seems like a great dude. And I mean, Snoop’s a legend.
Of course the rapper has had a friendship with Willie Nelson for a while now, bonding over their…shared interests. And by that I mean their love of weed. The two have collaborated in the past, giving us a taste of what a Snoop country song would sound like.
And more recently Snoop teamed up with Chris Stapleton to record their version of the Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight” for Monday Night Football.
He’s even bragged about having Stapleton’s phone number while trying to win over contestants in his role as a coach on this season of The Voice, a role he shares alongside country legend Reba McEntire, and seems to be really into a lot of the country acts on the show.

So could we see Snoop make the jump into country music?
Well during an appearance on The Today Show, the rapper was asked whether he was into country music, and revealed that he’s already got something in the works with another country artist: Zach Bryan.
“Zach sent me a song I gotta put a verse on. I’m inspired seeing that with him with the Boss, with Bruce Springsteen.”

Snoop was referring to Zach’s recent chat with Springsteen, the one in which Zach said that he didn’t want to be a “country artist” but would rather be thought of as a “songwriter.”

Zach has already shown that he’s not afraid to collaborate with artists from outside of country music, from John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen to the Lumineers.
And I’ve gotta admit, the thought of a ZB/Snoop Dogg collab has me intrigued.
