Feel like somebody should have taught him how to load it before the cameras were rolling.

We’ve entered the “try to act like normal people” part of the 2024 presidential campaign, where candidates try to get as many photo ops of them doing things that they think make them look like just your ordinary everyday American. And for Democrat vice president nominee Tim Walz, that means getting out and doing some pheasant hunting.

The Minnesota governor and VP candidate for Kamala Harris spent time today taking part in the Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener, an annual event in Minnesota to mark the opening of pheasant season.

Walz was accompanied by four others in his hunting party – and a bunch of cameras and media. Just like normal people and totally not a photo op.

But anyway, a video started making its rounds showing the governor seeming to struggle with loading his Beretta shotgun, and the internet quickly pounced, comparing the VP nominee to Elmer Fudd and accusing the campaign of pandering to attempt to win over male voters:

Unfortunately (but probably not surprisingly), Walz didn’t bag any birds during his hunt. According to reporters, one pheasant was shot by a member of the group, but the carcass wasn’t recovered. The governor didn’t fire his weapon.

But hey, at least he finally got it loaded.
