I thought she said it wasn’t a country album?
Beyoncé created quite the frenzy when she dropped her country-inspired album Cowboy Carter back in March. At the time, the pop superstar made clear that the album wasn’t a “country” album, despite featuring collaborations with Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, along with a reimagined version of “Jolene.”
Speaking on Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé said it was inspired by an experience where she didn’t feel welcome in country music, though she said it wasn’t a country album:
“It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive…
This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”
Despite the proclamation from Bey herself, the album hit #1 on both the all-genre Billboard 200 album chart, as well as the Top Country Albums chart, with Beyoncé becoming the first black woman to have the top album on the country chart.
Since the album’s release though, we haven’t really heard much from Beyoncé. Fans were hoping for a Cowboy Carter tour, but so far nothing has been announced, and it seems like there hasn’t really been any promotion for the album since it was initially released.
But today, the Country Music Association announced their nominees for the 2024 CMA Awards – and fans quickly noticed that Beyoncé was left off the list, receiving no nominations despite her wildly successful album.
Now, could that be because she didn’t submit her album to the CMA for consideration? For sure. In fact, after speaking out about her bad experience in country music that many assume to have been when she performed at the CMA Awards in 2016 with the Dixie Chicks, it’s entirely possible that Beyoncé specifically asked NOT to be considered for any awards after feeling slighted by her last experience.
But that didn’t stop fans from calling out the CMAs for not including Beyoncé or Cowboy Carter in today’s nominations:
Beyoncé getting snubbed at the CMA is not surprising to me at all. The most important thing is that WE know she shook shit up in that genre #CowboyCarter

Let’s tell the full story.
It is not just that they didn’t nominate Beyonce in a single category.
It is also that THIS Morgan Wallen received the most nominations.
CMA could not be clearer about their vile racist values.
Now watch them still ask Beyonce to perform/present. https://t.co/0dzAKlLWeG pic.twitter.com/U7c0UnpYIn

the CMA’s snubbing Beyoncé for any awards is such a macrosggression and slap to the face! she literally awakened the country genre if we’re being honest!

Beyoncé don’t need a fucking cma to prove ANYTHING. it’s just the fact they keep playing in her face is what gets me.

The #CMA doubling down on the disrespect by not acknowledging #CowboyCarter is ridiculous. I’m waiting to see which artists boycott & stand with @Beyonce 👀 The Carters need their own award show like Soul Train so we can watch the CMAs ratings plummet to hell where they belong

Beyoncé not getting any nominations for the CMA’s is not surprising but it’s really fucked up

Did the CMA’s snub Beyoncé or did Beyonce snub the CMA’s by not submitting Cowboy Carter? I think it’s the latter. pic.twitter.com/CPqXibGeBx

Racist cma's just jealous of Beyoncé, foolish people.

LOL so post malone gets 4 cma noms but not Beyoncé?? 😭 pic.twitter.com/Mey3VgLx2j

Racism still exists in the music industry…Black people played a significant role in the evolution of the country music genre. Beyoncé created this album following an experience of feeling alienated from the Country Music Awards….and the SAME people shut her out…again! #CMA https://t.co/ed4qTg7d94

Beyoncé getting shut out of the CMA’s despite having a #1 country song & album is….. a very intentional choice.

Of course as we all know, the CMA Awards are pretty much a joke anyway at this point, so it’s not like it matters to anybody at this point, much less a global superstar like Beyoncé.
But of course, her fans were upset to see Bey left off the list – especially with Morgan Wallen leading the nominations.
