To be the best you gotta beat the best.
With all due respect to the Big 12 fans out there, it’s hard to argue that the SEC has been the best conference in college football for a while now. With 6 national championships since the inception of the College Football Playoff back in 2014, and the dominance of teams like Alabama and Georgia, it’s hard to argue that the SEC is the top conference.
And that conference only got stronger this year with the addition of Oklahoma and Texas, the top two teams in the Big 12.
There’s been a lot of talk about whether the new teams would struggle to adapt to the higher level of play in their new league, as well as a debate over whether it was a good idea to expand at all when that just makes it harder to win the conference in the first place.
Now, of course it’s too early to tell how the teams are going to fare in SEC, but both Texas and Oklahoma scored dominant wins in their first games of the season.

And last night, Oklahoma dominated in their game against Temple, scoring a 51-3 win against the Owls. And during the game, they also debuted their new home game tradition, paying tribute to the late, great Toby Keith between the third and fourth quarters.
It was a magical scene at Memorial Stadium as 80,000 people sang along to Toby’s hit “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” and a fitting tribute to the legendary country music singer who was such a strong fan and supporter of the Sooners.
But how did Toby feel about Oklahoma moving to the SEC?
Well, we asked that question to his son, Stelen Covel. And as expected, he revealed that Toby was confident in the Sooners’ ability to compete in their new conference:
“He thought it was a good move. He always said that the top of the Big 12 was always just as competitive as the top of the SEC, so he felt we were going to be strong competitors in the SEC.”
Of course, you should have known that Toby wouldn’t be afraid of a challenge. Gotta run with the big dogs…and the Big Dog Daddy was ready to see his team in the SEC.
