Who would have thought they’d have to wait six months to get a seat at a Waffle House?

However, this one Georgia location has a very long waitlist. The original Waffle House location opened Labor Day weekend, 1955, in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Given the history of this first location of the historic franchise known for serving up hashbrowns smothered and covered, one can only assume that Waffle House fans and addicts want to see the historic location.

But here’s the kicker. Fanatics can’t just walk into the restaurant, and they can’t even get their favorite waffles or an All-Star breakfast. The location is now the Waffle House Museum. It takes visitors on a walk down memory lane, transporting folks back to 1955 with a remodel of the original interiors, vintage mugs, menus, and over sixty years of memorabilia. Fans get the full experience of a Waffle House from seventy years ago…well, without the food.

The museum has a seriously long waitlist, though, and it’s not like one in New York where you can walk up and purchase a ticket to an exhibit. The New York Post reported that the current waitlist to book a tour at the historic site is over six months because they only offer timed tours for 20 people twice per day—and only on Wednesdays.

You’re in luck for those who do not want to wait until 2025 to book their tour at the legendary location. The Waffle House Museum is hosting an open house on September 7th and December 7th  from 11 am to 2 pm, so if you find yourself in Georgia.

The good news is that after visiting the museum, there are plenty of roadside locations in the area where you can get your fix of waffles, hashbrowns, and eggs. Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll stumble upon a jukebox Hank Williams Jr. singalong like this one.
