I am not a fisherman, but I could watch this video all day.
There is nothing more mesmerizing than watching an angler hook one off the signature figure 8 pattern that every good muskie angler must know. Ben Stone, a fisherman and content creator out of Minnesota, has a ton of videos of him hooking into massive muskies.
Wearing a go-pro on top of his head, he sees a muskie coming up from the depth as he keeps his lure close to the boat. He drags the lure in a melodic figure-eight pattern, patiently waiting for the fish to either bite or give up and swim away.
“Here’s one, here’s one.”
Catching muskies off a figure eight is one of the most effective ways to fish for this breed, as the motion mimics injured prey. The frantic pattern triggers their predatory response, which makes them instantly dial in on the lure moving in that pattern. One might thing you want to slow down so the fish can catch up and bite it, but that’s not the case. He then starts pulling the lure in a faster pattern to keep the big muskie enticed.
In one swift movement, the angler pulls the rod, hooks on the muskie, and begins wrestling with her to get her out of the water.
“Oh, got her!”
He yells with force as the fish begins fighting with him instantly. This video shows that this angler is effective, skilled, and knows how to get one on quickly, giving the fish limited time to get away.
This footage is mesmerizing.
