Whichever side of the political aisle you’re on, this is a great initiative. Reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau is teaming up with former President Donald Trump for a golf video where every stroke under par will send $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Bryson has had players such as Sergio Garcia on before to try to break a score of 50, which means you have to birdie every hole and have several eagles on your scorecard. The fact is, it’s rather easy to get under par, so it’s quite a gesture of generosity to see Bryson’s willingness to donate so much to such a good cause.
The Wounded Warrior Project is an organization that helps veterans through a myriad of programs and services. It’s self-evident that those who serve in the military and return home have a hard enough time readjusting to civilian life, never mind if they’ve been injured in combat. Considering how divided modern America is, doing right by veterans is hopefully a cause everyone can rally behind.
U.S. Air Force veteran Ronald Lackey, who was medically retired after his service in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and has continued working for decades, wrote a rather sternly-worded opinion piece for Military.com last month about former President Trump’s record of alleged lack of reverence for America’s servicemen and women. So whether this team-up with DeChambeau is political posturing by Trump, or a sign that he’s more respectful of the military than what’s been widely/frequently reported, the event is going to an excellent cause.
Like Bryson tried to assert, collaborating with Trump on the upcoming video is not about politics, but rather about the organization and the people within it who it’s benefiting. It’s unclear when exactly Bryson and Trump filmed their Break 50 challenge, but again, in the wake of the assassination attempt on Trump, we could all use some good news as a country.
This commendable union between Bryson and Trump on account of the Wounded Warrior Project qualifies as such.
