Talk about a sketchy situation, and a really sad one if this is indeed what happened to former Duke star Kyle Filipowski.
Once considered a potential lottery pick, Filipowski slid all the way to the second round, where the Utah Jazz scooped him up with the 32nd overall pick on Thursday.

Google says over 68% of Utah is populated by Mormons, and from the sounds of a disturbing narrative Filipowski’s brother is painting, it might not have been an accident at all that the 20-year-old landed with the Jazz. In fact, I’m inclined to infer that this outcome might’ve been orchestrated from the jump.

Some heavy sh*t. If what the family is saying is true, Filipowski was forced to cut them off with a “goodbye” email, and started dating his girlfriend while he was still a minor. Kyle’s brother Daniel even went out of the way to clarify that first detail about breaking contact.

This all stems from a podcast clip from The Lowe Post that started making the rounds, which basically revealed the details contained in that “College Basketball Report” tweet. Filipowski was reportedly nervous to answer questions about his significant other when speaking to teams during the pre-draft process.

Why am I inferring that his move to Utah was the grand plan from the start? Well, if he’s gone this far down the road with his girlfriend, and it’s all about Mormonism, there’s no better team for Filipowski to play for than the Jazz. Like, he might’ve been manipulated to sabotage every team interview except for the one he had with Utah. I’d be fascinated to hear what the Jazz have to say about all this. It’s pretty clear as day.
Other than messaging him on his IG account, don’t know how to get in touch with him. But look up and read on Mormon grooming and brainwashing and you’ll find some introductory details in there to connect some dots into the story that is going on here

Then it’s like, if Filipowski tries to come out and deny all this, the claim will be that he’s so deeply gaslighted that he doesn’t know which way’s up. So even the most steadfast denial from his camp or the Jazz will be met with the utmost skepticism.

Filipowski was at the center of controversy when he was hurt during a court storming incident last season. Otherwise I know nothing else about him for sure, except that he was a very worthy first-round pick who fell to Round 2. If this wild backstory is the reason why, just gotta wish him all the best and hope he gets the hell out of that beyond-toxic relationship.
