Maybe politicians need to just stop pretending they can relate to normal people.
It’s a tale as old as time: Some crusty old government official posts a picture trying to make themselves seem relatable, and inevitably something’s wrong or it’s the most awkward photo of all time and they just end up seeming even more out of touch with average Americans.
The latest example: Senior Senator from New York and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Schumer posted what I’m sure he thought was a relatable post about being able to grill for the first time in his life after living in an apartment all these years.
“Our family has lived in an apartment building for all our years, but my daughter and her wife just bought a house with a backyard and for the first time we’re having a barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill!”
But before we go any further, let’s just stop right there: Nobody thinks that a politician like Chuck Schumer living in an apartment in New York is relatable. His “apartment” is no doubt bigger than my house, probably by two or three times, and it’s not like he couldn’t afford to buy a house if he was really dying to fire up the backyard BBQ.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get to the picture:
Oh boy…
Anybody who’s familiar with working a grill (or cooking in general) can immediately spot the multiple problems with this picture. The cheese on the raw burger, the hot dogs that are fully cooked over on the other side of the grill, the knobs clearly showing that only one side of the grill is even turned on, the burgers that appear to be totally unseasoned…
Yeah, I’m not letting Chuck Schumer anywhere near the grill at my cookouts.
And the folks over on Twitter were all too quick to mock Schumer for his obviously-lacking skills:
How do you do, fellow grillers? pic.twitter.com/AYLmnpsWc7

You put cheese on a raw patty. Y’all are so bad at pretending to be normal human beings

It was so bad that Schumer (well, his staff running the account) was forced to delete the post – but of course the internet is forever:

After seeing that picture, pretty sure the only thing Chucky got for Father’s Day this year was diarrhea.
