An easy standout from hummingbird.
Last night, Carly Pearce performed “truck on fire,” from her just-released fourth studio album. It was a quick favorite of mine the first time I listened to it on Friday, and I love hearing it live even more.
Carly appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to perform the new tune for a national audience, which was written by Carly along with Justin Ebach and Charles Kelley.
It’s a brazen, sassy tune where she calls out a no good, cheatin’ man for running around town behind her back, ignorantly thinking she wouldn’t find out what he was up to. And unfortunately for him, Carly was ready to take matters into her own hands…
She admits in the chorus that she found “a little gas in a small red can” and the joke is on him (and is truck):
“Birds been talking up on the wire
Spilling your secrets all over this town
You and her, back road, pulling all-nighters
Did you really think that I wouldn’t find out?
Oh, so I found a little gas in a small red can
Oh, last strike match flying out of my hand
Liar, liar, truck on fire

The lyrics are clever and full of humor, the production and melody are really catchy, and it makes “truck on fire” super fun to listen and sing along with.
Plus, who doesn’t love songs about gross men and setting their belongings on fire? A country music specialty I particularly appreciate…
I can see this one quickly becoming a fan-favorite, and I’ve already had it on repeat since Friday. Do yourself a favor and check it out, as well as her entire album, because it’s one of the best records released in 2024 so far in my very humble opinion:
