All things considered, Rory McIlroy just might be the favorite to win the 2024 PGA Championship.
Rory got back to his winning ways this past weekend when he ran away from the field at the Wells Fargo Championship. McIlroy caught fire in the final round of the event and ending at -17 under for the tournament, five strokes better than the second place finisher.
The 26-time winner on the PGA Tour voiced that winning at the Wells Fargo undoubtedly gave him a boost heading into the PGA Championship, which takes place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. It was that exact golf course where Rory won his last major championship back in 2014:
“I’m a way better player than I was back then. I haven’t had the major record to back that up, but I’ve had the wins, I’ve done everything else there is to do in the game since 2014. The only thing I need to do is get another major. A win like this going into the PGA Championship next week is a good way to prep for that.”

And if that wasn’t enough for you to hammer Rory as the winner at the PGA Championship, another important detail emerged earlier today, just as McIlroy made his way onto the grounds at Valhalla.
TMZ discovered through released court documents that Rory filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll on Monday:

That might not seem like important and pertinent information to some, but many online have started connecting the dots with the timing of the divorce. Weirdly enough, last time Rory won at Valhalla in 2014, he broke up with his girlfriend Caroline Wozniaki shortly before the tournament.

I’m no financial advisor, or sports betting expert, so take this with a grain of salt. But I feel mega-comfortable putting some money down on Rory winning the PGA Championship. He’s freed up in all senses of the phrase. Recent win to get the pressure off his back? Check. Rory getting shut out from trying to re-join the PGA Tour board? Check. McIlroy once again a free man? Big time check.
Social media is all over Rory having a successful weekend at the PGA Championship. If you need another reason to climb aboard the Rory-recently-divorced train, he’s won four major championships in his career and they’ve all been while he was single. Coincidence? I think not.
