ACM Awards 2017: Miranda Lambert Stuns With Last Minute Solo Performance Of “Tin Man”

The ACM Awards are this Thursday, and we’ve been taking a look back at some of the most iconic moments in the award shows long history.

From Alan Jackson protesting using a pre-recorded track by having his drummer play with no sticks, to George Jones thanking his “ex-wife and new husband-in-law” in a speech, there have been some very memorable moments.

And today, I want to take a second to remember one of the best performances in ACM’s history, Miranda’s acoustic rendition of her heartbreaking anthem “Tin Man” in 2017.

“Tin Man” was on her 2016 album The Weight of These Wings, and was written alongside Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, her Marfa Tapes collaborators and long-time co-writers. It only reached #15 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart that year, which is a shame because it’s such an amazing song that’s supremely underrated.

Her performance of it at the ACM’s a few years back is so good, you can almost hear a pin drop during the entire song because the audience is so captivated. I mean, the look on Ronnie Dunn’s face in the middle of it says it all.

And according to Miranda, the solo performance was pretty nerve-racking at the time. In a 2017 report from The Tennessean, she made the last minute decision to sing “Tin Man” solo, which she called “terrifying.”

But it paid off…

It takes a lot of guts to get up on a stage and bare your soul to the world, especially in front of your peers, and she absolutely killed it.

It’s pretty difficult to find the video these days, but she still has the full performance up on her Facebook page, and it’s simply stunning:

And last year, Mirada stole the show once again with a stripped back, flawless performance of her fan-favorite heartbreaker, “Carousel.” It’s still one of my all-time favorites:

The 59th ACM Awards will be livestreamed live at The Star in Frisco, Texas exclusively on Prime Video this Thursday, May 16th at 8:00 PM EDT. The show will be hosted by Reba, who is also set to perform.
