The lineage of the great Loretta Lynn.

The 22nd season of American Idol kicked off last week, already having talents grace the stage that captured the judges’ hearts. While the season has just kicked off, competition seems like it will be challenging, but even more so after news broke that someone related to a country music legend will appear on the show later during auditions.

Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, Emmy Russell, is set to take the TV screen on February 25th. While there is no news yet if she advanced past the audition, knowing that she has a background in singing leads my intuition to believe it will be a positive experience for Russell.

When Lynn performed, she would call Russell on stage to sing a few songs with her. Russell recalled at her ‘Memaw’s’ tribute show that they would always perform one original song and one song that everyone knew, and Lynn’s kind eyes would guide her through performing in front of big crowds.

Last year, on the anniversary of her passing, Russell shared the heartwarming clip of her and Lukas Nelson performing, and it will bring you to tears.

“Memaw passed today last year. Gosh, I miss her, but why would I wanna take away the freedom that she’s experiencing on the other side…Here’s a clip of a special song I sang at her memorial with my friend, Lukas Nelson.”

The performance will choke you up instantly as she shares how much Lynn meant to her as a musical mentor and a grandmother. The tears keep forming as she and Nelson perform “Lay Me Down.”

What a beautiful tribute to a woman that country music loved so dearly.

Russell has already graced one of the biggest stages in country music, as she made her Grand Ole Opry debut in April of 2023. Russell’s musical career is already well on its way, and this national television exposure will continue to boost her presence.

Set up your YouTube TV recordings to catch Russell on your TV on February 25th. I hope she covers one of her grandmother’s songs, but I know no matter what she sings, Lynn will be beaming from up above.
