Sean Payton Calls Nathaniel Hackett’s 2022 Denver Broncos Season: “One Of The Worst Coaching Jobs In The History Of The NFL”

It’s no secret that last year was an incredibly disappointing season for the Denver Broncos.

The team brought back a ton of talent, and the only thing that had been missing in Denver for the past few years has been quarterback play, but that seemed to all change when they brought in former star Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson…

But Wilson played horrible this past season, and aside from a stellar defense, the team finished an abysmal 5-12, good enough for last place in the AFC West.

However, it seems like Broncos management was ready to take immediate action, as they fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett, and brought in Super Bowl winning head coach Sean Payton, who had a number of great years as head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

With that being said, Payton is now discussing his expectations for this upcoming season, while also pointing to what went wrong last year.

He told USA Today Sports:

“I’m going to be pissed off if this is not a playoff team.”

Payton also pointed to the issues that caused such a tragic season last season:

“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed. And that happened here. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much f*cking time trying to win the offseason — the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff. We’re not doing any of that.

The Jets did that this year, you watch ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants.

I was a young coach. I thought, ‘How are we going  to compete with them?’ Deion’s there now.’ That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen…just put the work in.”

And as far as the issues with Wilson last year, Payton said:

“There’s so much dirt around that. There’s 20 dirty hands, for what was allowed, tolerated in the fricking training rooms, the meeting rooms. The offense.

I don’t know Hackett. A lot of people had dirt on their hands. It wasn’t just Russell. He didn’t just flip. He still has it.

This B.S. that he hit a wall? Shoot, they couldn’t get a play in. They were 29th in the league in pre-snap penalties on both sides of the ball.”

However, at the end of the day, a lot of his falls on the coach… and Nathaniel Hackett was TERRIBLE.

“Everybody’s got a little stink on their hands. It’s not just Russell. It was offensive line. It might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL. That’s how bad it was.”

Needless to say, these are some big words coming from Payton, and he wasn’t hesitant to call out other organizations too.

I guess we’ll see here in the next few months if Payton was a genius, or an absolute clown.

When asked by Pat McAfee if he’s gonna make Russ the best he’s ever been, Payton replied:

“We’re fixin’ to do it… f*ck yeah.”
