Koe Wetzel is pulling out some stops on the Road To Hell Paso Tour. From the theatrics of the fire and lighting to the addition of some killer throwback covers in this setlist, he is now pulling one of Alabama’s finest on stage with him.
The other night on their Huntsville, Alabama leg of the tour, Koe had Adam Hood join him on stage during his David Allan Coe cover of “You Never Even Called Me By My Name.”
Written by John Prine and Steve Goodman, it was originally released on Goodman’s 1971 self-titled debut album, however it didn’t see much attention until Coe recorded the song for his 1975 album Once Upon a Rhyme.
Although, some have deemed Koe doing this cover as “David Allan Koe,” but with the addition of Hood, it seems like “David Adam Koe” is the perfect reconfiguration.
And when in Alabama, what else are you to do than extend some southern hospitality and share the stage with musical friends?
“I haven’t sang a David Allan Coe song in years, but by God, there are some things you never forget.
That was a damn good time.”
Hood shared a clip of the tune to Instagram, which he nailed on the head.
Both of their voices blend together perfectly in the chorus.
Koe replied to his video, saying:
“So much respect and love, brotha.
We’ll have to run it back soon.”
An Adam Hood and Koe Wetzel collaboration in the future? It could be a hell of a country tune putting these two in a studio together.
