The Second Half Of ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Will Probably Be Delayed Until 2024

Welp…

It’s no secret at this point that Yellowstone will be coming to an abrupt end in the second half of season five, ending one of the most popular shows in the world right now, arguably at the height of its popularity.

It all stems from the reported drama between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan, after Costner reportedly couldn’t agree to a time to film the second half of season five due to his busy schedule. Coster really wants to focus on his own upcoming western movie series, Horizon, and with Yellowstone’s demanding film schedule is just seems like Costner doesn’t want to do a few more seasons of the show.

Costner is one of the highest paid television actors in the business right now, making over $1 million per episode, but that isn’t enough to keep him on board.

And rather than continue on without the great John Dutton, Taylor Sheridan has opted to speed up his conclusion and end the show. Of course, another spinoff with Matthew McConaughey is in the works, as well as a green lit 1944 prequel, so the Yellowstone story will definitely live on.

So, the question remains… when will the rest of season 5, the series finale, premiere?

The Hollywood Reporter is now giving us an idea of what we may be seeing in the finale of the show.

With the ongoing writers strike that still has no end in sight, it appears that a 2024 premiere is very likely, even though we had hoped we could get a premiere by November at the latest. Of course, the season was originally supposed to resume this summer, but that sure as hell isn’t happening.

If they don’t start shooting soon (and that looks impossible), they may have to wait until next spring which could put the timeline at fall of 2024… yikes.

But the good news is that we may be getting more episodes than originally intended. Taylor Sheridan recently said that he would add as many as it takes to tell the story:

“If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10. It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”

Back in June, Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton) admitted that he hadn’t seen any scripts yet, but gave his best prediction of how the rest of the show will play out:

“Does Jamie go down with John? Does John go down because of Jamie? Does Jamie have a hand in it at all, or does it turn out Jamie tries to protect him? There are so many potential ways he deals with John’s ending. We’re at a point where I think everything is possible with the Duttons.

It’s so hot and combustible right now that it could blow them all up together. I think the potential for that is real. But I also know that I am always surprised by Taylor and the turns and directions. With the tension and danger right now, it potentially could be either they are all gone, or one of them survives.”

We’ll see… if one thing is for sure, it’s that Taylor Sheridan is working one hell of a finale to his flagship series.

Stay tuned…
