49 Winchester and ERNEST singing the blues is something I didn’t know I needed in my life.

We’ve gotten some incredible music from Spotify Singles over the years, with artists going into the studio to re-record their hits or do some unique covers of their favorites.

And that’s exactly what 49 Winchester and ERNEST did.

“Night Life” was written by Willie Nelson, Paul Buskirk, and Walt Breeland, but was famously recorded by George Jones, Waylon Jennings, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, The Highwaymen, Willie himself, and many more.

Now ERNEST and 49 Winchester are adding their names to the list of legends to record the the classic staple.

While the song may have initially been recorded by some blues and jazz artists, Ernest’s voice like butter and Isaac Gibson’s soulful sound pairs for the perfect southern sound that still keeps a hint of the blues, thanks in large part to Tim Hall’s keys making a standout appearance on the track.

And a song about the night life couldn’t hold more true for both parties.

ERNEST has more than 60 shows announced for the year, and 49 Winchester is just behind him with over 50, and I’m sure there are even more dates to come in 2023 for them both. While it’s not something either complain about, all the late nights out can’t be easy when you spend life on the road.

As the song repeats:

“The night life ain’t no good life
But it’s my life”

When asked about the collab, ERNEST said:

“Sometimes it feels good to get outside of the box and collaborate – that’s what this town, foundationally, is built on. Working with the guys from 49 Winchester on this single was a great experience top to bottom, I’m glad we were able to hop in the studio together.

I’m a big Willie fan and loved getting to do something that’s a little different from what I normally do in the studio.”

While recording, the two even included some personal touches to the track talking about grabbing drinks and smoking doobies which is quite on brand.

This one is going to be on repeat for a while. Take a listen to it now on Spotify and on the Whiskey Riff Playlist “2023 Country”.

And of course here’s the original from Willie Nelson:
