Maren Morris Takes A Shot At Tucker Carlson During GLAAD Awards Speech: “I Would Never Insult The Recently Unemployed”

Looks like Maren Morris is taking one last jab at former Fox News host, Tucker Carlson.

It was recently announced that the popular cable news host would be leaving Fox News following the network’s settlement with Dominion Voting Systems. Carlson’s show Tucker Carlson Tonight was one of the highest rated shows on FOX, and all of cable news media, but his name was heavily involved in the defamation lawsuit that was just settled for $787.5 million dollars.

Since his termination, it had been reported that he created a “toxic and hostile” work environment during his time at Fox News, but others have claimed that Tucker refused to toe the company line and Fox Corp owner Rupert Murdoch was no longer happy with someone bucking the narrative of the establishment.

Nevertheless, Carlson broke his silence last week, essentially calling out the mainstream news “propaganda” machines in the process:

He announced that he’ll be hosting his own news show via Twitter, where free speech is still allowed:

“Speech is the fundamental pre-requisite for democracy. That’s why it was enshrined in the first of our Constitutional amendments.

Amazingly, as of tonight, there are not that many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining … is Twitter, where we are now.”

And of course, nobody was happier to see Tucker get the boot from Fox News than “country music” singer Maren Morris.

It all started last year when Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany, posted a video on her Instagram of herself putting on makeup, with a caption thanking her parents for not changing her gender while she was going through her “tomboy phase” as a child.

Following the post, former country music artist Cassadee Pope took to Twitter to respond to Brittany’s comments, saying:

“You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging.

But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their ‘tomboy phase’ to someone wanting to transition. Real nice.”

Maren Morris eventually jumped in as well:

“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ons and zip it, insurrection Barbie.”

Brittany then went on Tucker’s show to discuss the controversy, and in the introduction, Tucker referred to Maren Morris her as a lunatic fake country singer:

“A country music singer called Cassadee Pope accused Aldean of wronging LGBTQ+ people for writing that, and then a lunatic called Maren Morris, some kind of fake country music singer, went all the way… and then of course, Brittany Aldean was attacked up and down the American media for telling a ‘transphobic joke,’ which they never quoted at all.”

Maren embraced the characterization by Tucker, launching a line of merch that said “Lunatic Country Music Person” to raise money for LGBTQ charities.

After the news broke that Fox was terminating Tucker Carlson, Maren posted to her Instagram story celebrating the news:

However, Maren isn’t done yet…

At last night’s GLAAD Awards, Maren took another opportunity to take a shot at Tucker during her acceptance speech for Excellence in Media.

In her speech, she said she felt badass taking him on:

“I felt a little badass taking on Tucker Carlson for calling me a lunatic for standing up to transphobia. Maybe I did feel a little cool, but I don’t want to gloat. I would never insult the recently unemployed.”

And while he may technically be unemployed, he will be getting paid out $20 million a year for the remainder of his contract. I’m sure he’s not worried about it…

Maren Morris is also the first country music artist to receive GLAAD’s excellence in media award.
