Dog vs cats.
When predators have encounters and go head-to-head its always a spectacle. These are not common but are bound to happen when you have limited resources and highly skilled hunters and scavengers.
Bobcats are medium-sized cats, with adult males weighing up to 35 pounds. They are typically around 2 feet tall and 3 feet long, with a tail that is around 6 inches in length.
Bobcats are opportunistic hunters, and their diet varies depending on the availability of prey in their environment. Their diet consists of small mammals, such as rabbits, squirrels, and rodents, as well as birds and reptiles. They are also known to prey on larger animals, like deer when the opportunity arises.
Skilled hunters, they have sharp senses and powerful legs that allow them to stalk and pounce on prey. They are also excellent climbers, and will often ambush their prey from trees or other high vantage points. In addition to their hunting abilities, bobcats are also fierce fighters, and will defend themselves and their territory against other animals, including coyotes.
Coyotes are medium-sized wild dogs, with adult males weighing up to 45-pounds. These dogs feed on very similar things to bobcats. Coyotes are a common predator in North America, and often compete with bobcats for prey and territory. Being slightly larger, they typically have the competitive advantage, but that doesn’t mean a bobcat doesn’t have plenty of fight.
This trail camera set up near an animal carcass captured two bobcats feeding on it. A coyote comes into view as it comes in for a feed. The three animals look at each other and decide they’re going to have to fight it out.
One bobcat chases the coyote out of view and chaos ensues. You can hear the growls from both sides as they got at each other.
They circle around in front of the camera and the bobcats both lunge at the dog. It then runs off and the cats stay to continue their meal. The dog circles around and tries again from another angle.
These cats and dogs really don’t like each other out there.
What an encounter to capture.
