Charley Crockett To Release ‘The Man From Waco Redux’ Next Month

Charley Crockett country music

If you loved The Man From Waco as much as I did, you’re in luck.

Charley Crockett announced that he’ll be releasing The Man From Waco Redux next month, which will be a digital-only release featuring reworked versions of songs from the first installment.

He says he believes that if your tune holds up and can withstand the test of time, it should be able to be put to many different arrangements with different bands and still have the story shine through:

“Listening back to ‘Waco,’ I’d had an idea to do a part two in the style of Marty Robbins’ Gunfighter Ballads or the Johnny Cash Ballads Of The True West. I guess I’ve always been turning in these western folk ballads from the very start.

I’ve always been a folk songwriter, and if your tune really holds up you oughta be able to present it with any kind of band or arrangement and have the story show through.

On ‘I’m Just A Clown,’ it started out as a three chord barroom Honky Tonk number and then I went soul on it. Here we went and flipped it all around again using the same darker chords but in more of a late ‘60s folk color.”

Charley is of course a very talented musician and songwriter, so it will be fun to get to hear a new perspective on the original songs and how he reimagines them for this project.

The Man From Waco (Redux) will be out everywhere on digital platforms on May 26th, 2023.

He released the new version of title track today, too, so make sure you check it out while you’re here:

Charley also has a packed 2023 tour schedule, so make sure you catch him at a show out on the road if he’ll be anywhere near you this year.
