Morgan Wallen Plays Free Surprise Show At Hometown High School, Donates $35,000 To Music And Athletics Programs

Happy Monday

Nothin’ like a hometown show…

Morgan Wallen returned to his alma mater, Gibbs High School, last night to play a free show for the 2023 senior class, as well as faculty, members of the baseball team, and plenty more of his hometown friends and family.

He showed up in the auditorium to tell the senior class about the show that night, and of course, he later played them some of his hits, as well as songs from his new One Thing At A Time record.

Baseball coach Geff Davis even presented him with a 2021 championship ring during the show, as his parents, grandmas and son all watched from the crowd, with Morgan adding that the school will always “hold a special place in my heart”:

“This is so cool. There are a lot of special people here.

Having graduated in 2011, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel coming back – but this place will always hold a special place in my heart.”

He then presented a $35,000 check on behalf of the Morgan Wallen Foundation to go toward providing instruments for the school’s students, saying he started the foundation to combine his love of music and sports, which have both shaped who he is today:

“I started the Morgan Wallen Foundation about a year ago – It combines my love of sports and music.

Without those two things I don’t know where I’d be, I don’t know what my life would look like.

I know it would look a lot different, so that’s what I’m going to try to do – give back to those two areas, as well as communities in need. That’s our focus.”

The money will go towards getting new instruments for the choral department and band, and a new field cart for the baseball team:

“We wanted to say thank you tonight and help you out with a couple things, so we wrote a $35,000 check.

It’s going to go towards instruments for the choral department, instruments for the band department and then for baseball – a new field cart – so we can help get this field back in shape after y’all trampled on it tonight.”

And it all certainly made a night for the 2023 Gibbs class that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

Morgan will play another free at-capacity show tonight in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena, as every ticket available was given away in just 3 hours yesterday in a scene of pandemonium in downtown Music City…

His aforementioned 36-song One Thing at A Time album is out everywhere today, and while there’s certainly a ton of music to get into, I’d start with his Eric Church duet “Man Made A Bar”:
