They don’t make ‘em like Charles Wesley Godwin too often these days.
Godwin, who’s been on one hell of a heater ever since the end of 2021 release of his last album How the Mighty Fall, just can’t seem to miss.
While he announced not too long ago that the next record is in the works and should be out by the end of the year, he took to Instagram earlier this week to let his fans know that we’d be getting some more CWG content to hold us over in the meantime.
“Last May, The Allegheny High and I spent half a day at The Church in Pittsburgh recording a few songs.
The first of those, a cover of Chris Knight’s ‘The Jealous Kind,’ comes out this Friday.
I should specify that these are NOT part of the new album that will be out later this year, but hopefully it will hold you over until then. More details soon!”
One of the coolest covers I’ve heard in a long time, Godwin took an official stab at Chris Knight’s “The Jealous Kind,” which he had covered informally on YouTube before. And he absolutely killed it, doing one of the greatest songwriters ever every bit of justice that he deserved.

An interesting take on a largely slow and acoustic song in its original version, CWG and the Allegheny High speed things up a bit and tastefully add some more driving instrumentation in the back, setting us up for an interesting take on an Appalachian classic.
In the YouTube description, CWG adds:
“The song is the first release from his upcoming “Live from the Church” EP, available everywhere February 17.”
So, in just two short weeks, we can expect some more music. I don’t know if it’ll be all covers, live versions of previously recorded songs, or some new content, but either way, the EP is off to a hot start with this one. I think it’s safe to say that anything CWG, though, will be well received.
