Positive news from Damar Hamlin.

This past Monday night, we experienced arguably the most frightening scenes in NFL history.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered on-field cardiac arrest after making a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins on the Monday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

It was easy to see how bad the situation was, judging by the response of the players as medical personnel were on the field performing CPR and giving him oxygen, trying to revive him.

Since Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance and sent to University of Cincinnati Hospital, all we have heard is that he remains in critical condition.

However, Hamlin’s uncle, Dorrian Glen, spoke with CNN to give us an update on his nephew’s condition.

He told the outlet that he’s still sedated, and that they’ve flipped him on his stomach to help take the pressure off his lungs:

“He’s still here. He’s healing right now. Like I said, they sedated him just to try to give him a better chance to continue to heal better. Just taking it day by day, and it seems like he’s trending upwards in a positive way, and thank God for that.”

Glen also noted that it all came as a shock, considering that his nephew didn’t have any preexisting heart conditions, and he was “healthy as an ox.”

He also expressed a ton of gratitude to the help from the medical staff:

“I just want to express my gratitude to the medical staff that was on hand. If not for them, my nephew probably wouldn’t be here, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. We thank them.”

He also mentioned that his nephew died again at the hospital, and had to get resuscitated again for a second time.

Hamlin’s mother and father have also been by his side throughout this entire situation, and Glen said they are both heartbroken, adding that the situation is just devastating all around.

In one last moment of gratitude, Glen thanked the people of Cincinnati:

“Everyone’s been so nice out here,” he said. “Everyone I’ve gone up to has asked, ‘Do you need anything?’

Giving me prayers and wishes, and it really means a lot to our family dealing with this, because no one expected this to happen, but knowing you’ve got that circle of support to help you get through it, it helps a lot.

Because, I really believe those are making a difference for him to have the full recovery we’re all hoping and praying for and expecting.”
