Shannon Sharpe Doesn’t Show Up For ‘Undisputed,’ Skip Bayless Apologizes For Doing The Show Amid Insensitive Tweet About Damar Hamlin

The NFL world was left in shock last night, after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered on-field cardiac arrest after making a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.

It was a horrific scene all around, as you could visibly see Hamlin stand up after the tackle, and immediately collapse to the ground, appearing to be unconscious.

It was easy to see how bad the situation was, judging by the response of the players as medical personnel were on the field performing CPR and giving him oxygen, trying to revive him.

Needless to say, about everybody and their brother were calling for the game to get immediately cancelled or postponed, as this situation goes way beyond football… a teammate and brother was battling for his life.

However, one sports personality sent out the most tasteless tweet of the night, and it was no other than Undisputed co-host Skip Bayless.

And while he claims he was misunderstood, he sure did a poor job of getting his point across.

He said:

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome… which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

Bayless took a ton of heat from the Twitter world for focusing on the football scenario, and regardless of his intent behind the tweet, it was a terrible time to post and terrible wording as well.

With that being said, Bayless made an appearance on Undisputed this morning to apologize, but his apology was almost geared towards still doing the show, not so much what he said last night.

With no Shannon Sharpe beside him, he said:

“Allow me to say upfront, that I apologize for what we’re going to set out to do here today, if it offends anyone, because we’re gonna try to do the show pretty much as we usually do the show. But I’ll admit upfront, I’m still shook up by what happened last night to Damar Hamlin.

In fact, I’m still wrecked. In fact, I’m not sure I’m capable of doing this show today. But after barely sleeping on it, I decided to give it a try. Maybe I’ll fail, maybe we will fail, but we’re going to try. We wrestled through much of the night if we should even do a show today, because it felt like in our minds, we almost can’t win with this.

Because, the last thing we want to try to do is come off as insensitive to what this young man is going through in a lone life or death situation. The last thing we want to do is offend anyone, by trying to do what we always do, which is talk about sports.

As this show goes on, we’re going to try to talk about a little bit of sports, but we’re gonna continue to talk about what happened to this young man last night, and try to sort back through it, with help from you and the audience.

And we ask you now, if you’d like to tweet us your emotions from the night, and of this morning, about what happened to Damar Hamlin, please do so.”

However, the absence of co-host Shannon Sharpe immediately had fans wondering if Skip’s comments had something to do with Sharpe sitting this one out.

Sharpe is expected o be back on the show tomorrow.

A representative for Hamlin spoke with Good Morning America earlier today, providing an update on Hamlin who remains in critical condition:
