The apple surely doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Tayla Lynn, the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, and Tre Twitty, the grandson of Conway Twitty, have formed a duo called Twitty & Lynn, and they’re currently out on tour together doing A Salute to Conway and Loretta.
And they just released a brand new cover and music video of a really cool, country-fied version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Im on Fire.”
“I’m On Fire” was originally released in 1985, and was the fourth single from Bruce’s classic album, Born in the U.S.A. A solo write by Bruce, it peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart the year it was released.
The music video was filmed in Springsteen’s stomping grounds of New Jersey, mostly at the Jersey Boardwalk, and Tayla says the song holds a very special place in her heart.
She remembers listening to it on the radio all the time with her late mother, Cindy, growing up, who passed away suddenly in 2018:
“It’s been a long time since our last conversation, but I remember every word I had with my Mama. She blasted ‘I’m on Fire’ and taught me the words.
We ooo’d as one – all Springsteen rockin’ vocals flyin’ through open windows. Heading south…always heading south.”
So when the time came for Tre and Tayla to hit the road, it was almost like divine intervention when “I’m on Fire” came on the radio while they were in Canada, and they knew they had to cut it as their first single:
“Fast forward 30 years from Springsteen school with Mama and me. Tre and I are in Canada and that song comes on. We start to sing as we drive north. Always heading north.
Anytime Tre and I are on the road, the radio is always on 80’s country or 80’s rock. It’s what we grew up on.
I turn down the volume and tell him about Mama and the song and the memories. He said, ‘We should cut this.’ We did. It’s our first single.”
They make a helluva duo, and it’s awesome to see them honoring their grandparents’ legacy and singing their songs for this generation of country music fans:
