New music is on the way from J.R. Carroll, and it can not come soon enough.

A good friend of Zach Bryan who played on American Heartbreak and has been touring in his band of late, Carroll is an extremely talented songwriter and singer in his own right.

In 2020 he released his debut project, a five song EP called Long Story Short that proves just how great of a musician he really is. And luckily, despite the busy touring schedule, he’s found the time to make some new music.

Several days ago, Carroll posted an Instagram video announcing new music was on the way, but did not provide much detail.

Now he has again taken to Instagram to provide a little more information on what is to come, announcing his upcoming single “Red Fern” is to be released on June 22.

“Red Fern” is going to be a full band rendition of Carroll’s acoustic fan favorite “Where the Red Fern Grows.” He also mentioned that the full project will be coming soon, and that his good buddy Zach Bryan did the photography for it.

“I remember sitting in my bedroom in Oologah several years ago and writing this song. I can still remember how excited I was to show my pals and my family. That feeling has never really left since that day.

I’ve played this song all over the country, and y’all have streamed the acoustic version a couple million times across all the streaming platforms. It’s been the song I close my sets with ever since I started playing live, and it seemed right to share this song with y’all the way I dreamed it would sound when I wrote it.

So here’s the official announcement:

Red Fern. June 22nd. Available everywhere. Full Project very very soon. Pre-Save Link in bio!!”

Check out the acoustic version, “Where the Red Fern Grows,” and go listen to the rest of Caroll’s stuff, too. You’ll be glad you did!
