Kaitlin Butts Performs Unreleased New Song, “Roadrunner”

Kaitlin Butts country music

Let’s start the countdown now…

Kaitlyn Butts returned to the country music scene in a big way last year with the release of What Else Can She Doher first album since her debut in 2015, which contained great songs like “It Won’t Always Be This Way”, “Blood”, and “In The Pines”.

Then just at the end of the year she dropped Sad Yeehaw Sessions EP, a 5 song acoustic project which contained a duet with husband and lead singer of Flatland Cavalry, Cleto Cordero, on the Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss classic “Whiskey Lullaby.”

That’ll bring any grown man to tears…

Well, the Oklahoma native is back again, this time performing an unreleased song at The MusicFest in Steamboat, Colorado that is certainly a sonic change for her.

The majority of her songs to this point have been way more on the sad and reflective side, but this one is shaping to be a boot stomper.

Titled “Roadrunner,” she starts the song with a checklist of things, places, and sights she’s seen while out on the road, before turning the second half of the first verse more self-reflective, but still keeping with the upbeat, freehearted melody that’s quite refreshing to hear her break into to.

This song does seem to be best suited for a full band, so I’ll be very interested to hear if this is a stand alone outlier on the new album or if she’s taking a chance and putting out some more fast paced honky-tonkers.

Either way, I’ll be tuning in the second this album is released.
