Everyone knows the opening lines to this fan favorite… and if you don’t I hate to inform you that you have been living under a rock. And what better rock to pull you out of that land of unknowing the beautiful track than a Red Rocks performance?

Prior to taking the stage in support of the Turnpike Troubadours show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, Wyatt Flores and Sierra Hull teamed up to cover the legendary song from  Tyler Childers’ “Shake The Frost.” While Childers has never laid down a version of the song in the studio, that has not stopped the track on Live From Red Barn Radio I & II from becoming one of fans’ favorites “Shake The Frost.”

“Wyatt Flores and I got together last Friday at Red Rocks to play one of our favorite Tyler Childers songs just before the crowd rolled in.”

With Hull on the mandolin and Flores and his acoustic, Hull takes the first verse of the track, setting the stage for the airy and light vocals. Flores comes in on the second verse keeping the same light feel of the lyrics, taking away the growl that Childers put on the original cut of the song. Hull comes back in during the second chorus, laying down harmonies that coat your ears in a heavenly way.

While both Flores and Hull take a softer approach with the vocals, it works. The airiness pairs flawlessly with the acoustic composition and breathes new life into the 2018 track.

At the end of their duet Flores makes a comment that they knocked it out of the park.

“Heck of a deal. That was pretty dang good.”

He’s not wrong. Give it a listen for yourself.
