Wade Bowen Shows Fans A New Side Of His Texas Twang On 10th Studio Album ‘Flyin’

Wade Bowen did not come to play with this album.

Last week, the Texas Male Vocalist of the Year dropped his 10th studio album, Flyin, via Thirty Tigers/The Orchard. The album was entirely produced by Bowen and embodied the dynamic sound he has curated over his over twenty-year career. From honky tonk heaters to deep-cut heartbreak ballads and everything in between, the album shows how multi-faceted Bowen’s sound is.

“I’m extremely proud of this record. ‘Flyin’ really came out of this energy I needed at this point in my career at 20 plus years in. Right now, I’m having more fun than I ever have playing music, writing songs, producing albums. I wanted people to see that with this release. This album has an energy we have never had before, and I hope my fans can feel that as well!”

“I wanted a different kind of energy for this record, a different sound than y’all have really heard from me before. I feel like the word “Flyin” represents all of that for me—something that feels positive and good. I hope y’all feel that when you listen.”

Bowen is not wrong when he notes that this album is different from his typical sound, but it does not stray away from the roots that his fans know and love him for. From the harmonious intro to the title track, “Flyin’,” Bowen sets the stage with the upbeat track, opening the album with a bang.

He then takes listeners through highs and lows throughout the album, like “Mary Jane,” the perfect wedding song, posing a sweet love story about a man wanting to give his woman the world. Or with his previously released single “Rainin On Me,” Bowen puts an upbeat twist on the heartbreak ballad, questioning if the woman he is no longer with feels the same rain cloud of her head as he feels.

While Bowen made sure to hit the sweet spots, he also throws in heartbreak ballads like “Someone Else’s Now,” when you have to reconcile the feelings that someone you loved has moved on. And naturally, being the Texas native that he is, Bowen tips his hat to the Lone Star State, noting there is no other place he’d rather be with “Nothin But Texas.”

Bowen strove to make this record his most personal and focused on cutting songs that he felt his fans would love, not necessarily those that would make number-one hits.

“More than ever, people need to hear songwriters talk about their lives. We don’t always have to search for monster hits. We can just write about our lives and maybe that might actually work. That’s what this record is a lot of. A lot of massive songs, but also a lot of me just writing authentically and honestly about my life.

I feel like I’m flying into this chapter where I’m the best version of myself that I’ve ever been. Y’all better catch up, or you’re getting left behind. I’m on fire!”

Flyin dropped at the perfect time as Bowen is gearing up for a string of hometown shows in New Braunfels teaming up with the legendary Miranda Lambert (who is also putting out some new tunes). You can catch this duo from May 24th through the 26th at Whitewater Amphitheater.

Check out some of our favorites from Flyin, but a listen from top to bottom is well worth it.
