Kentucky Derby 101: Don’t Make The Same Mistake As Patrick Mahomes Pronouncing “Louisville, Kentucky”

Patrick Mahomes

Dialects are a funny thing.

The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner. This weekend, some of the nation’s top racing competitors will hit the track hoping to take home the roses. While the Derby is the start of the Triple Crown run, it is also undoubtedly the race that draws the most celebrity appearances.

From country music stars to professional athletes, rappers, and more, everyone puts on their best Derby attire to sip mint juleps and place bets. With all these celebrities appearing at the event, Churchill Downs takes advantage of them, having them announce important events throughout the day.

Last year, Patrick Mahomes had the honor of announcing riders up in the paddock before they hit the track. What’s better than having a Super Bowl winning athlete signal off other stellar athletes to get on horseback before the biggest race of their careers?

Mahomes knocked it out of the park…until he got to the part where he said the city in the iconic Churchill Downs racing track is located. Being from Texas, you’d think he would have had the southern twang of how to pronounce Louisville.

The internet quickly began flaming him for how he pronounced the city’s name, leading the Kentucky Derby social media team to work overtime, creating a hilarious reel of other celebrities poking a little fun at Mahomes and giving their take on how to pronounce Louisville.

Yung Gravy gets it…

To anyone speaking at The Kentucky Derby this weekend…learn from Patrick Mahomes and keep yourself safe from the internet trolls.
