A new smallmouth bass may be hitting the record books in the state of Indiana.

According to Bass Boat Central, an Indiana man named Rex Remington has a pending state record for smallmouth bass after he recently reeled in this 8.23 pound behemoth on Lake Monroe, just south of Bloomington. The lake is not typically known for smallmouth, but the catch was reportedly weighed and certified with the Indiana DNR before it was released back into the water.

Just an absolute tank of a smallmouth, one that will probably hold the state record for a long, long time. Congrats, Rex.

The previous record was 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and caught on Twin Lake in 1992.
