New AI Model Can Create Realistic Videos, Social Media Is Both Intrigued & Terrified

If you weren’t already concerned about artificial intelligence, this should do it.

AI has been rapidly advancing ever since it was first introduced, and based on this new feature from Open AI, the computer software has gotten the hang of video creation.

Open AI officially announced Sora earlier today, a text-to-video model powered by artificial intelligence that can create minute long videos after being fed only a few details.

In the company’s post about Sora, they included the realistic, life-like footage that was created with the program, and also provided the three sentence prompt that the model used:

“Beautiful, snowy Tokyo city is bustling. The camera moves through the bustling city street, following several people enjoying the beautiful snowy weather and shopping at nearby stalls. Gorgeous sakura petals are flying through the wind along with snowflakes.”

My mind simply can’t comprehend that the video above is not real.

I know that it’s not, but the artificial intelligence is clearly working out the kinks. And its even more terrifying when you realize that AI is still only in the developmental stages (think the first couple of iPhones that came out).

If the video above wasn’t enough evidence for you, go ahead and watch this clip below that Sora created of cute puppies playing in the snow:

How can a computer create something that adorable?

And if you’re still needing more proof, I’ll also present to you this hyper-realistic video of a off-road vehicle stirring up dust as it speeds down a mountain:

Needless to say, the AI videos that have made their way onto social media have been met with mixed reactions.

There are some people, like the guy above, who sees this technology as life changing and revolutionary. Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly powerful, and is able to craft together videos in seconds that used to probably take days of visual design work.

Then there are other people who are somewhat mortified by the AI’s abilities. Videos like that are incredibly realistic, yet they aren’t real, and that’s certainly going to cause some issues (despite Open AI saying they are taking important safety steps).

But enough from me about all of this. Take a look at how social media was feeling about the cutting edge AI model:
