Fox News Gets Flamed For Listing Wrong Frank Thomas On Year End “In Memoriam” Segment

Frank Thomas

Big oof from Fox News this morning…

As 2023 wraps up, everyone is putting out lists to sum up the year that was and one of those is remembering those who passed away, but during a segment this morning, Fox News made a blunder that has set the internet on fire.

Back in January, a former MLB player named Frank Thomas passed away at the age of 93. He had played 16 seasons with a number of teams, his longest stint being 8 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates, before retiring as a 3-time All Star in 1966. But, as baseball fans will certainly know, there was another Frank Thomas that’s a bit more well-known…

“The Big Hurt,” who played most of his career with the Chicago White Sox, retired back in 2008 after 19 years, 521 homers, 1704 RBI’s, and a career batting average of .301. He also won 2 MVP awards and is a Hall of Famer.

Well, the media team at Fox News didn’t do their due diligence and listed “The Big Hurt” as the Frank Thomas who passed away this year, despite him being alive and well at the age of 55 years old.

To say the internet didn’t take it well would be an understatement…

My heart skipped a beat when I first saw some of these posts because Frank Thomas (the one who’s still alive) is a legend of the game, and I’m very thankful he didn’t die and is still out there crushing it on testosterone raising supplement commercials.

When you’re a media organization the size of Fox News, how do you let this happen? I mean come on people, does no one in your department watch baseball? You don’t even have to be a huge MLB fan to know “The Big Hurt”, that’s awful.

Can’t say I don’t get it when people say they don’t trust the media… (Except for Whiskey Riff because come on guys, we’re the good media). Fox did issue a correction apologizing for the blunder, but as we can see, it was much too late to stop the roasting.

Love the memes coming out of this one…
