Comedian Kevin Hart Is Now In A Wheelchair After Trying To Race Former NFL Player Stevan Ridley: “The Age Of 40 Is Real”

Getting older is one of the tougher mental and physical things you can battle with, and comedian Kevin Hart recently found that out the hard way.

The legendary comic and actor is pretty well known to keep himself in shape, but not even his regimented fitness plan could save him from the grips of Father Time. As the 44-year-old Hart explains in his Instagram video announcing his injury, he tried to do some “young person stuff” and paid the price for it.

Kevin Hart and former NFL running back Stevan Ridley were apparently going back and forth at one another about who was faster, which ultimately led them to compete in a head-to-head race. As the comedian explains in the clip, things didn’t go all that great:

“Welp…you know it’s gonna be bad when someone starts off by saying ‘welp,’ it’s bad. Ladies and gentlemen, the age 40 is real. To all my men and women out there that are 40 years old and above, it’s not a game, respect that age. Or that age will make you respect it.

I was just forced to respect it. This is just a public service announcement because I know people may see me out, and I don’t want you to be alarmed, but I’m in a wheelchair. Why? Well, because I tried to jump out there and do some young stuff.”

You can tell that Hart is in somewhat good spirits about the whole thing, and is definitely sharing the story with the public to make sure that people aren’t worried about him and to laugh at himself a bit.

He then goes on to describe how the race came to be, which resulted in the comedian suffering injuries that will temporarily put him in a wheelchair for six to eight weeks. Hart continues:

“I tried to go out there and do some young man stuff and I was told to sit my ass down. Shoutout to Stevan Ridley, I’m gonna throw this story out there before you do. Me and Stevan, we got into a little debate. This debate was based off of who was faster. Those that know me know that I’m pretty fast.

Stevan said ‘Kev, ain’t no way you’re gonna beat me.’ Stevan is an ex-NFL running back, played for the New England Patriots, very good guy…We get out there, we go run the 40 yard dash. Guys, I blew all my sh*t. I tore my lower abdomen, my abductors… I don’t even know what that is but I tore them. I can’t walk.”

Absolutely brutal, especially for Kevin Hart, who like I mentioned earlier, prides himself in staying in shape when he isn’t selling out stadiums for comedy shows. Considering he can’t walk, he’ll have to be limited to “sit down comedy” for the time being. He’s off to a great start with this initial video…

Stevan Ridley took to his Instagram story to respond to Kevin Hart’s announcement, apologizing for being somewhat responsible and wishing him a fast recovery:

“I saw (Tom Brady) do it at your age so I figured you had the juice too big bro. My bad. Heal up and keep making us all laugh.”

Hart’s full Instagram video detailing the whole ordeal and his injuries (and him hilariously talking to his children that are sitting around him) can be viewed below:
