I’ve spent a lot of my adult life trying to look cool while I’m at the pool, and this bear managed to do it without even trying.
A homeowner in Burbank, California was forced to call the authorities when they had an unexpected visitor enjoying their backyard pool setup. The Black bear was really making itself at home in the pool area’s hot tub, even resting one of its arms up on the side of the jacuzzi, and all it was really missing to “complete the part” was an ice cold beer.
According to a release from the Burbank Police Department, officers were called about the lounging bear shortly after 3 p.m. PT, and responded to the scene at 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the big animal “taking it easy” in the hot tub while listening to Alan Jackson. Okay, I made up the part about the bear blasting country music, but everything else is accurate.
The officers arrived and took the video which is now going viral, and for good reason. I’ve never seen a wild animal look so comfortable in an area designed for human enjoyment, and the fact that it is now getting its moment to shine (and has no idea) is fantastic.
When the clip starts, the bear is trying to situate itself so it can rest a paw on the side of the jacuzzi and take in the beautiful sights of the California hills. At one point, it appears to look straight at the camera smiling, and why wouldn’t it be? This bear has finally figured out how to enjoy modern society’s amenities that have long been reserved just for us humans.
After hanging out in the hot tub for a while, the bear apparently got out of the water and decided to leave the residence. Police say it made its way over a wall and into a tree, still hanging close to the residence. Officers, along with the Burbank Animal Shelter and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, stayed and monitored the situation until the bear eventually vacated the premises.
But not before it was able to enjoy some of the finer things in life, like a dip in the pool. Take a look at the video below, which was captioned:
“This bear is beating the heat in Burbank! Officers are on-scene after the bear was spotted in a hillside neighborhood before taking a dip to cool off.”
The Burbank Police Department also linked to a “Bear Safety Document” for residents in the Burbank area, with portions of it warning why a bear could be hanging around in the neighborhood:
“Feeding bears teaches them to approach homes and people looking for more. Bears will defend themselves if a person gets too close, so keep your distance!
Food and food odors attract bears, so don’t reward them with easily available food, liquids, or garbage.”
There you go, pretty simple really. Don’t give a reason for a bear to be there, and it most likely will stay away.
Residents in this particular Burbank neighborhood hopefully won’t have to worry about this bear coming back, though something tells me that the animal won’t be happy with just the “bear necessities” after experiencing the relaxing dip in the jacuzzi tub.
X users loved the video of the black bear “straight chilling,” sending out replies like:
