Honestly, moms never get the credit they deserve.
Whether it’s putting a band-aid on a scraped knee, driving back and forth to all kinds of practices, or just making dinner every night, they’re always looking out for everyone else, often at the expense of themselves.
Well, this mom from Redmond, Washington proved yet again that they’re always on the lookout and ready to swoop in to save the day.
Security camera footage captured a scary scene on video last year when a toddler, named Juniper, unlocked the patio door and meandered outside. When she got outside, Juniper noticed a furry creature climbing on the cement backyard wall and immediately ran over to get a closer look.
And what was that furry creature? Oh, just a black bear…
Washington state is home to around 25,000 black bear, according to the WA Department of Fish and Wildlife, and one just so happened to sniff out the family’s backyard bird feeder.
This bear, thankfully, was just a cub and even more thankfully mom was not far behind her daughter as she started running toward the animal while yelling out with joy, “That’s a bear!”
The mom, named Samantha Martin, had a few other choice words for the situation…
“Oh sh*t. Juniper come back inside. Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t, sh*t. There’s a f*cking bear outside.”
She later spoke to Fox 13 News about the encounter.
“It started running across the fence and she chased it… I just panicked. I didn’t really have a lot of thoughts in the moment so much as get the child and get back inside.
It was just a little baby bear, but my biggest concern wasn’t necessarily the baby bear so much as I didn’t know where the mom was and didn’t know how she’d feel about two humans running towards her baby.”
Turns out they had just been reading animal books and Juniper’s new favorite animal was, you guessed it, bears.
Big shoutout to that mom for being hot on her daughter’s tail when this happened.
Don’t even want to think of what could have happened had she not been there and the mama bear was…
