Terrible news.
Ray Lewis III, the son of NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis and a former college football player himself, has passed away at 28 years old.
Lewis III was a star running back for Lake Mary Prep High School in Florida before going on to play college ball at Miami, Coastal Carolina and Virginia Union University. He would later play indoor football for the Wyoming Mustangs back in 2021.
The news of his passing was shared on Instagram by his younger brother, Rahsaan Lewis, who posted a tribute to his brother:
“Really can’t believe I’m even typing this but RIP big brother.
A true angel I pray your at peace now because ik how much you was rlly hurtin. I don’t and won’t ever have the words man cuz this pain right here…
I love you I love you I love you.
Your niece gone miss you but she will hear about u over and over just watch over us all big bruh be our guardian angel.
I promise I’ll make you smile and proud.”
Diego Ryland, who was Lewis III’s former college coach at Virginia Union, told TMZ:
“Great young man and a better teammate. The entire Virginia Union University community is praying for the family as they deal with the loss of Ray.”
Lewis III is of course the son of former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, who won 2 Super Bowls during his 16 years in the NFL.
No cause of death has been given at this time.
Just terrible news any time something like this happens to somebody so young. Thoughts and prayers to the whole family.
