The Idaho boy finally made it to the Grand Ole Opry.

It’s been a big couple of months for Colby Acuff. The Coeur d’Alene, Idaho native announced back in May that his upcoming album, Western White Pines, would be dropping this coming Friday, June 9. And on the same day, he also announced that he had signed a record deal with Sony Music Nashville.

Now, he’s gearing up to step into the historic circle for the first time and make his Grand Ole Opry debut – and we were incredibly honored here at Whiskey Riff to be able to help surprise him with the news.

During what Colby thought was an appearance on our Whiskey Riff Raff podcast, one of his good friends hopped on to extend the special invitation to Colby.

Flatland Cavalry frontman Cleto Cordero joined us mid-conversation and asked Colby if he was ready to make his Opry debut:

“What do you got going on August 1? My buddies at the Grand Ole Opry reached out and was wondering if you’d like to make your debut that day.”

Colby clearly was overwhelmed by the invitation (which he of course happily accepted), and became emotional as he spoke on what the opportunity to make his Opry debut means to him:

“When I was talking about this and we were talking with some people at the Opry, and we got the tour…for me, I feel like I had a better chance playing on Mars than for an Idaho boy to go play at the Grand Ole Opry. So I really appreciate it.”

Well no word yet on any tour dates on Mars, but Colby will officially be making his Grand Ole Opry debut on August 1, and there’s nobody who deserves it more.
