J.R. Carroll Jams Out On The Bus For Killer Cover Of “Charleston Girl” By Tyler Childers

JR Carroll country music

Man, what I’d give to be a fly on the wall in the bus after a Zach Bryan show.

J.R. Carroll, Zach’s piano player and a spectacular singer and songwriter in his own right, recently gave fans a look into a late night jam session on the bus alongside fan-favorite steel guitarist Read “Two Show” Connolly (who also plays steel in Charles Wesley Godwin’s band The Allegheny High) and fiddle player Lucas Ruge-Jones.

And you need to hear this for yourself, because these guys absolutely kill a cover of Tyler Childers’ “Charleston Girl.”

It’s always cool to see your favorite artists cover each other’s music, but Carroll, Connolly, and Ruge-Jones really took the cover game up a notch on this one.

That comes as no big surprise, though, considering they are in the midst of a massive arena tour playing in one of the genre’s most popular bands with superstar Zach Bryan.

This video comes from Carroll not too long after a video came out of him and Drayton Farley doing one of the best covers I’ve ever heard of Jason Isbell’s Drive-by Truckers era hit “Goddamn Lonely Love.”

But it isn’t just covers that Carroll is good at. If you haven’t checked out any of his original music yet, then you need to get on it, because Carroll is bound to blow up soon on his own.

Here are a few of my favorites.

“Make You Weep”

“Rocky Ford”

“Red Fern”

Zach Bryan must really know good artists when he sees them, because his band is full of them.

And that “Charleston Girl” cover is some pretty awesome proof.
