On This Date In 2014: Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood Are Number One With Their Duet “Somethin’ Bad”

On this date in 2014, two of the biggest country music stars were topping the charts.

Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have long been the apex of female superstars in country music.

Since their debut albums in 2005 and 2001, respectively, Carrie and Miranda have dominated the charts and award shows while their near-rabid fanbases fill arenas and stadiums around the country. Between the two, they have 11 Grammys, 47 ACMs (with Miranda being the most awarded artist of all-time), 25 CMA’s, 13 RIAA certified Platinum records, and 17 number one singles.

They’ve shared the stage quite a few times throughout their careers, but in 2014, they teamed up for a single that became the first number one by two solo women artists in over two decades.

“Somethin’ Bad” was written by Chris DeStefano, Brett James, and Priscilla Renea and was the second single released from Miranda’s fifth studio album, Platinum.

The song was an instant hit and climbed the charts quickly, peaking at number one on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and remaining on the chart for 25 weeks. It ended the year at number 10.

For my money, there are few mainstream artists who can compete with Miranda. And Carrie’s voice is one of the greatest in history, so anytime these two want to team up, I am here for it.

Crank this up and let’s have a Friday.
