The ACM Awards are this evening, and we’ve been taking a look back at some of the most iconic moments in the award shows long history.

From Miranda Lambert taking a shot at her ex-husband Blake Shelton on stage, to George Jones thanking his “ex-wife and new husband-in-law” in a speech, there have been some very memorable moments.

And today, I want to take a second to remember one of the best performances in ACM’s history, Miranda’s acoustic rendition of her heartbreaking anthem “Tin Man” in 2017.

“Tin Man” was on her 2016 album The Weight of These Wings, and was written alongside Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, her Marfa Tapes collaborators and long-time co-writers.

It only reached #15 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart that year, which is a shame because it’s such an amazing song that’s supremely underrated.

Her performance of it at the ACM’s a few years back is so good, you can almost hear a pin-drop during the entire song because the audience is so captivated. I mean, the look on Ronnie Dunn’s face in the middle of it says it all.

And according to her, the solo performance was pretty nerve-racking at the time. In a 2017 report from The Tennessean, Miranda made the last minute decision to sing “Tin Man” solo, which she called “terrifying.”

But, it paid off…

It takes a lot of guts to get up on a stage and bare your soul to the world, especially in front of your peers, and she absolutely killed it.

It’s pretty difficult to find the video these days, but she still has the full performance up on her Facebook page, and it’s simply stunning:

Yesterday, Miranda announced that she’ll be performing her deep cut “Carousel” from her 2022 studio album Palomino, and I have a feeling we’re in for another very heart-wrenching, similar acoustic performance once again this year.

I mean, “Carousel” might just be the saddest song in her entire catalog, and it’s easily one of my all-time favorites too:

The 58th ACM Awards will be livestreamed at The Star in Frisco, Texas tonight exclusively on Prime Video at 8:00 PM EDT. Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks will co-host the show for the first time.

Zach Bryan and Hailey Whitters are already early winners, taking home the New Male Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year awards, respectively.
