From one Texan to another.

Cody Johnson is slated to pay tribute to the one and only Willie Nelson at this years ACM Awards, which he just revealed in an interview with Audacy’s Katie & Company.

He noted that Willie is one of his heroes, and he can’t wait to honor the red headed stranger and celebrate his 90th birthday (which was on April 29th) with such a special performance:

“The biggest thing I can tell you about my performance is that it’s my band, it’s live – I pride myself on playing award shows with my band with no tracks.

And we’re getting to play a Willie Nelson song. I grew up on Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, so to get to celebrate Willie’s 90th birthday and play one of his songs, it’s a big deal to me…. Willie’s one of my biggest heroes.”

We don’t yet know which song CoJo will be singing, but he did previously cover Willie’s iconic song “Sad Songs and Waltzes” on his 2021 double album, Human.

I do know that this will be one of the best performances of the evening, though, and you can check out all the performers HERE.

The 58th ACM Awards are tomorrow, May 11th, and will be livestreamed at The Star in Frisco, Texas exclusively on Prime Video at 8:00 PM EDT. Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks will co-host the show for the first time.

Zach Bryan and Hailey Whitters are already early winners, taking home the New Male Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year awards, respectively.

You can check out the full list of nominees HERE.
