Turnpike Troubadours are back and suddenly, all is right in the world…

The country music world is buzzing at the news of Turnpike’s upcoming album, A Cat In The Rain, their first new album since 2017’s A Long Way From Your Heart. The Oklahoma country band kicked off the album with the release of a new single, “Mean Old Sun,” and followed it up with a ton of new tour dates this year.

Produced by Shooter Jennings, the new project will feature 10 songs, including the title track which Evan previously performed in the past year, the lead single, “Mean Old Sun,” and one called “East Side Love Song (Bottoms Up),” which you may have heard before.

Just called “Bottoms Up” at the time, it was recorded in 2013 from JJ’s Alley at the Bricktown Pub in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The album, titled Sounds from the Alley, Vol. II, is a compilation of some of the best artists based out of Oklahoma at the time, and features the likes of John Fullbright, Parker Milsap, and Turnpike’s own Evan Felker.

With that being said, Felker puts together a masterpiece here, and immediately captivates you from the beginning of the song:

“You’re such a sight in dashboard light
You’re an old forgotten photograph in shades of black and white
And we feel alright well we got all night
Well your daddy’s gone to Kingston bettin’ on a rooster fight…”

“Well bottoms up now darlin’
Well let’s get on back to town
Well the bottoms aren’t the kinda place you need to hang around
Let’s get on back to town
Let’s get on back to town…”

I’m sure we’ll hear a reworked, full band version on the new album, but nevertheless, if you want a little taste of what’s to come, look no further:
